Bike Miami Ride : Sunday, July 19th

from Bike Miami Days

"On July 19, Bike Miami Rides are back, offering Miami residents a free ride towards becoming safer, better, more confident city cyclists. No registration is required and it is completely free.

Volunteers, including Officers from the City of Miami Police Department Bicycle Unit, will be on hand to teach you the basics of riding safe. Meet at 8:30am at Legion Memorial Park on NE 64th & Biscayne Boulevard. We’ll start our day going through the “A-B-C Quick Check”, when you’ll learn how to quickly check your Air, Brakes and Chain and what you need to make your bike road-ready. Then, you’ll learn how to fit your bicycle helmet for optimum safety. We’ll go through the basic Rules, Rights and Responsibilities of Cyclists and Motorists before heading out for a short ride – just under 2 hours long. We’ll stop for water and bathroom breaks and learning opportunities as we explore Miami’s Historic MiMo district, Little Haiti and Buena Vista neighborhoods, the Design District and Edgewater. At the end of the ride, you’re invited to join the City of Miami Bicycle Coordinator, Collin Worth, and other volunteers for lunch. Destination to be determined.

Legion Memorial Park is a beautiful waterfront park in the heart of the Miami Modern (MiMo) Historic District. There is abundant on-street car and bicycle parking in the area. The group will meet in the shaded area just behind the NET office (6599 Biscayne Blvd). Please bring a water bottle, your helmet, your bicycle and your friends! See you on Sunday, July 19 at 8:30am!"

Keirin OpenSprints @ PS14 : Video

Last Thursday nights OpenSprints at PS14 were lots of fun. The event was hosted by Keirin Cycles and it was the first time the roller races were held at a bar versus outside their bicycle shop on South Beach. The affair went on without a hitch, there were a good amount of participants & spectators, $1 beers specials, and free giveaways throughout the night. A few 'grudge matches' were squeezed in during an intermission which was great, members of the audience were invited to partake in the races w/o having to register. I encourage all cycling aficionados to check out this event the next time it's held, it really is an interesting social gathering.

Thanks to Thomas & Nick @ Keirin Cycles for putting this together, PS14 staff, Ian handling the tech stuff, Scratch for emceeing the event, DJs Benton & Juan (No Brainer Thursdays), Leader, Cinelli, Red Stripe, and of course everyone who came out & supported.

Congrats to Claudio who won the cash purse, Kayo who came in 2nd place and won a Cinelli saddle & t-shirt, and to Cynthia who won some Leader prototype handlebars.

Emerge / Meetup Critical Mass : Saturday July 11th

Emerge Miami / Meetup
Saturday July 11th @ 10am
5949 South Dixie Highway

"For our July meetup this Saturday The Miami Critical Mass July Meetup we'll be meeting at South Miami Metro-Rail station. We will be riding through the gables and the grove up to Alice Wainwright park. Then we'll head back through the City, it should be a great ride. This is our 3 year anniversary ride as well so bring your party hat. Snacks will be available at Alice Wainwright park in the Grove. Hope you can make it out and ride." - Collin Worth

This excursion is NOT like the Friday Critical Mass. It is a lot more relaxed and a great ride for novice cyclists and/or those who wish to take it easy. Come out and enjoy a leisurely ride and meet some like-minded individuals this Saturday.

Bring lotion if it's sunny out, you will probably get sunburned if not prepared.

Ride the M-Path : July 12th, 2009

"Meet at 4:15 p.m. at the University Metrorail Station, across from Bank United center at UM. The station has ample parking on the weekends.

We’ll leave at 4:30 p.m. sharp, riding downtown to Mary Brickell Village. There we'll get refreshments and start back south. This is a 14mile ride, and the pace moderate.

You'll see the prettiest parts of the M-Path, a greenway that's ideal for South Miami or Coral Gables residents who commute to downtown jobs. Any novices on the ride will get riding tips and the advice of experienced riders about trail courtesy and staying safe at road crossings.
